Japanese knitting pattern (step-by step instruction)

This knitting pattern contains 10 different knitting techniques. They are:

  • Knit (K)
  • Purl (P)
  • K2tog (Knit 2 stitches together)
  • P2tog (Purl 2 stitches together)
  • Yarn over
  • Ktbl (Knit through back loop)
  • Ptbl (Purl through back loop)
  • SSK (Slip-Slip-Knit; slip 2 stitches separately on right needle knit-wise, transfer on left needle, knit through back loop)
  • SSP (Slip-Slip-Purl; slip 2 stitches separately on right needle knit-wise, transfer on left needle, purl through back loop)
  • Wraped stitch (Slip 5 stitches as if to purl into cable needle, wrap working yarn anti clockwise around the slipped stitches 3 times; k2, p1, k2 from the cable needle)

Note: All odd rows = Right side (RS) rows, even rows = Wrong side (WS) rows. Blank/empty box means Purl on RS, Knit on WS. On row 22 and 26 (both WS), the colored box means k1tbl (though on WS it should be done as P1tbl. It is an exception). On row 23, the colored 5 boxes represent wrapped stitch. Please check the symbol list and abbreviation if you prefer following the chart.

Knitting Pattern: 1 (Slack line 2 knitting pattern step-by-step instruction)

Recently I have found a beautiful knitting pattern on a website called stranamam. The site is in Russian language. I tried to translate it through google translate but still it was pretty hard to follow the instructions so I decided to use the chart.

Knitting pattern (slack line 2) with chart & step-by-step written instruction. http://crochetandknitstudio.blogspot.com/2017/04/knitting-pattern-1.html

I have made this swatch as a practice piece, though there were few mistakes (marked areas) but it was wonderful to knit this pattern.

Declamation: I do not own any of these pattern, charts and photos (sample dresses). All of these objects were collected from stranamam.ru. I am linking the relevant post for your reference. In this blog post, I have just transform the charted knitted pattern into a written instruction form. I am also adding the photo of the sample swatch that I have made using this pattern.

Finished: Solar Brilliance Crochet Doily by Julia Hart

Finally I am done with my solar brilliance crochet doily. It is beautifully blocked and placed on my TV shelf. I am so happy and satisfied. All those hard works of managing my 4 months old and crocheting at the same time really paid off. Here is the final look of my doily.

Solar Brilliance Crochet Doily. crochetandknitstudio.blogspot.com

Crocheting this doily became really easy because of the detailed instructions given by the designer. But to be frank from round 14, I became a bit confused. To me it was completely fine up to round 13 but from round 14, there were few errors in the pattern and the explanation. The pattern lacks few explanations, and clarity. There were few typos as well.

Solar Brilliance Crochet Doily. crochetandknitstudio.blogspot.com

Here are few corrections as of me:

In round 14, the pattern calls for doing "sc around sl st of rnd 14" on line 2, but it should be "sc around sl st of rnd 13".

In round 15, it is said to "sk next 4 sc, sc in next sc, , ch 3, (dc in next dc, ch 1) 4 times" on line 2 but it should be "sk next 4 sc, sc in next sc, , ch 3, sk next 4 sc, (dc in next dc, ch 1) 4 times". The instruction to sk 4 dc after ch 3 is missing.

There are two problems in round 16. One on line 1 and another on line 2. The instruction to "(dc in next dc 2) 4 times" on line 1, have to be "(dc in next dc 2) 3 times" . And the instruction to do "ch 2, decrease, ch 2" is somewhat vague. It would be more clear if it is written as "ch 2, double dc decrease from 2 ch 3 sp, ch 2".

In round 17, it is written as "cluster, triple picot, ch 1, cluster) in next sp, (picot, ch 1, cluster in next sp) 4 times". I think there is error as well. As of me, it should be "(cluster, triple picot, cluster) in next sp, (ch 1, picot, cluster in next sp) 4 times".

I have crocheted the doily based on the corrections I have written above. I do not know, I have done it right or wrong. I would appreciate if the designer review the instructions and check if it requires any corrections. I would be happy, if my notes can help her. I also want to see how your's one turned out if anyone of you done it before. Please share your project and thoughts in comments below, and do not forget to check my corrections.

I spent two days in crocheting this doily ( I know it took long time. My baby keep me busy always). I loved this pattern and would like to try other patterns of this designer. Once again, thanks to the designer for this lovely pattern and you guys who are reading this post.

My New Blocking Experience of Crochet Item

Well, here's my honest confession. I am crocheting from about 2 years now but never tried to block any of my crochet project before. I always wondered how people can crochet so perfectly that looks super professional. And finally I got to know the secret of blocking. I was especially lured by few instagram feed and decided I have to do it anyway. So this is the result.

Crocheting and blocking my Solar Brilliance doily by Julia Hart of Draiguna. crochetandknitstudio.blogspot.com

This beautiful doily is designed by Julia Hart of Draiguna and the free pattern is available on her website. I really loved every moment of crocheting this doily. What a marvelous work of art. All the different textures of each round makes it an unique piece. When I crocheted up to round 9, I thought, wow it would be a nice coaster. Then I proceeded to round 13 and thought ohh, it would look good as a dining table napkin. And after round 17, it became a beautiful doily. This is the beauty of this pattern. You can use it for different purposes. Before round 14, it's texture was quite different and it transformed it's look dramatically in next 4 rounds.

It was a great experience of crocheting this Solar Brilliance doily, the way it was named. It's surely a clever as well as brilliant design. Thank you Julia Hart.

Introduction

Hello everyone!

I am Naurid Kashpia Senjuti. I am a mummy of a little princess and love cooking, reading novels, travelling, crocheting and knitting. I have great passion for arts and crafts while crocheting is one of the most favorites. It is not only my passion but also a therapy to keep me clam and relaxed after all those sleepless nights with my baby. I have also recently learned knitting to make cute booties and hats for my baby girl who was born on December 10, 2016.

Crochet Doily. crochetandknitstudio.blogspot.com
I myself is a business graduate and  used to work for a Marketing firm as a Business Development Manager. But currently I am enjoying my stay at home mom role the most. Parenting is a whole new experience for me and I am loving every moment of it. I am also a wife of a serious professional, who is a civil engineer and a business owner.

I wanted to start a blog for a long time but was not sure what I can write in my blog. But this time it seems a bit easier for me because I am not making up anything, just keeping track of what I am doing. Recently I was crocheting few doilies using charts but could not find any written instructions to solve few confusions, that's when a blog idea came to my mind. In this blog, I will share my crochet and knit projects with you. We will chat about it, will share our problems and solutions and of course the finished projects. While doing so, I will share some written instructions of my favorite crochet and knit design which lack written instructions so that you guys who are not comfortable with symbols find it easier to crochet and knit. There are many patterns with written instructions as well but they are sometimes difficult to interpret. I will also try to solve those problems with your helps and document those here. I normally do these in my notebook but why not here! Let's help each other. I will occasionally make some photo tutorial and also wish to start my youtube channel as soon as possible.

I do not claim any design of my own. I will just describe what the chart is trying to say or what's the instructions actually mean but I wish to come up with my own design in future. So please wish me luck to my new journey and please share your thoughts in comment section. If you find my blog helpful then please share it with your friends and family and in social media. Thank you.
